This command allows you to define (by quantity and size) and initialize the flashes of the connected device.

Syntax

FINIT [-Q] <flash0> <size0> [<flash1> <size1> ...]

-Q

Queries only how the initialization would be performed

<flashN>

Name of the N-th flash

<sizeN>

Required size of the N-th flash [kb].

WARNING: once initialized, the flash irretrievably loses all its contents: therefore, perform the operation only and only if you are well sure of the operation you intend to do. Querying with the -Q parameter alone, on the other hand, poses no risk regarding the contents and structure of the flashes.

For more information about the number and type of flashes that can be defined, initialized, and then used, consult the hardware documentation for the specific device in question.

It is therefore possible that the list of flashes created, or the size actually applied, is different from what was requested: in any case, the command will display the difference between what was requested and what was applied. If compliance with the list, or the dimensions, is important then it is advisable to use the command with the -Q option, adjusting the request until the expected result is achieved.

After the initialization is finished, the result can be checked using the FMEM command.

Annotation:

In Standard and Standard* type flashes, the conventional flash names are as follows: /F@ (system flash), /FA (first user flash), /FB (second user flash), etc., and the size is usually rounded to the top 256 kb block. At the end of the operation, however, the system may have defined the two flashes with different sizes. For example, on Standard type flashes, we would get /F@ of 1024 kb and /FA of 768 kb.

Compact, SD, microSD, large SD (>= 4GiB) and large microSD (>= 4Gib) type flashes cannot be handled by this command, but the appropriate FDISK command must be used.

Examples of use

To define and initialize two flashes, called /F@ of 900 kb and /FA of 540 kb.

FINIT /f@ 900 /fa 540
